Building Your Career as a Stylist: Dressing the Stars

Being fashionable seems to come naturally to some people. If you have a sense for fashion and accessories, then a styling career is something worth considering. While dressing the stars is probably your ultimate goal, it won’t be easy to find your way in the fashion world without the proper knowledge. There is far more to being a stylist than grabbing outfits you see in the stores. The stars will only hire those who know a great deal about the art of being stylish.

Choosing from the many accredited online degrees is only the first step to take in building your career. Once you have gained knowledge about fashion design, body types, material, and even art, you can take that knowledge into the working world. You need practical experience along with book knowledge to make the most of your career.

Along with working, you will need to start the process of client networking. The networking process is how you connect with potential clients and get hired for jobs. Your personality, knowledge of how to create styles and a killer portfolio are important to landing styling jobs with influential clients. These people can give you a leg up in your career.

Don’t be afraid to offer your services at every available opportunity. Think outside the box and look for events at which a stylist might be needed such as charity fashion shows or a big speech. Often, charities will have big name supporters. If the stars like the work you do, they will remember you. Perhaps in the future, they might even hire you.

The Laws of Engagement Rings

When boy meets girl and they fall in love, a wedding is in the making. Unfortunately, things don’t always work out right. Love is lost, hearts are broken, and the wedding is off. Setting emotions aside, there are some legal issues at stake, one of which is: what happens to the ring?

Whether or not the bride-to-be (or groom-to-be, as women proposing marriage is becoming more common) keeps the ring is a matter of debate. Some say the ring should be returned to the asker, others think it is uncouth for a person to ask for the ring back.  However, some states have laws concerning this sort of thing.

Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Pennsylvania are all “conditional gift” states, meaning that a gift, such as an engagement ring, is conditioned on the couple getting married; if the wedding is off, the ring must be returned, or the man or woman is breaking the law. Many states have no set ruling or statutes on the matter, but one state, Montana, has a set Unconditional Gift rule: once a ring is given, it’s given for good. The only other state to have some sort of general rule for dealing with these matters is California, which is considered an “implied conditional gift” state, meaning that the ring is entitled to be returned, but not as a legal matter.

So, if you don’t live in a Conditional Gift state, be absolutely sure before you propose!

How do you Accessorize?

Gold Plated Jewelry

There are many different ways to accessorize depending on the look you are trying to achieve.

Classic accessories are basic pieces of jewelry, like a strand of pearls, diamond stud earrings, or a basic black bag.

Jewelry is both a fashion statement and accessory. You can dress a simple outfit up or down depending on your jewelry choice. For example, if you were black pants and a white shirt, a simple gold chain gives a classic but understated elegant look. If you choose a chunky multi-color multi-strand necklace it is a more fun, carefree look.

Even your watch can be an accessory, especially if you do not like bracelets or too much jewelry. Watches come in many colors, and styles, even delicate bracelet styles.

When accessorizing, do not forget all the options available when you style your hair, from a necktie headband, to a beaded barrette, to colorful clips and pins.

A popular way to accessorize if you are not the jewelry type is with a scarf or belt. Scarves come in so many styles, fabrics, textures and patterns that you can change the look of one outfit easily. Scarves can even be worn as a belt for a splash of color and drama. Depending on the length and fabric, scarves can be worn tied in front, in back, wrapped around the neck, draped over the shoulders, or pinned with a large brooch.

Many women accessorize with their shoes or handbag. You can match the handbag and shoes for one look, such as red bag with red shoes with a classic black dress. Or maybe you would like to make a statement with a black bag and a wild print or color shoe, such as a purple snakeskin or leopard print. For more color match the handbag to one color in the print shoes.

How to Eat Up the Big Apple

The reason why they call New York City the “Big Apple” is that it’s juicy and yummy, and there’s a lot to nourish you for days. It has to be a big apple, obviously–maybe miles wide and about a skyscraper the size of the Empire State Building tall. Did you know that there’s so much to do in NYC that some even live regularly in the 5-star hotels there? That’s pretty insane. But if you have the means, New York City definitely has the luxury.

It’s the heart of marketing and trade around the world. Staying in a luxury hotel New York City style puts you at the top of the communication chain, no doubt. But don’t stay there all the time you’re visiting. You want to experience the Big Apple the way it was meant to be experienced. You want to eat it all up. For starters, the premier luxury hotels to keep in mind are these: the Jumeirah Essex House, St. Regis, Surrey, Hotel Plaza Athenee, the Plaza Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, Andaz 5th Avenue, the Standard, Andaz Wall Street, and the Greenwich Hotel. Now that we got that out of the way, here are some must-sees and must-dos in New York City.

Times Square is a must-see. Times Square is epic. If you’re heading over to Central Park, be thrilled in the visuals as well as the historic Tavern on the Green, a tremendous restaurant. If you’re looking for something utterly remarkable, head over to Serendipity 3 and marvel at the world’s most expensive sundae, the “Opulence Sundae,” costing $1,000–that’s not a typo, it really does cost one thousand dollars–with gold flecks sprinkled all over it. That just scratches the surface of the Big Apple. One thing you don’t have to worry about is that this apple has no worms in it.

Teen Fashion Tips

As a teen you are discovering who you are, so have fun and explore with your wardrobe. There are a few things to keep in mind when experimenting to find your style.

-    Practice good hygiene. No matter what you wear, make sure you and your clothes are clean, regardless of your style choice.
-    Teeth and nails matter. If you wear nail polish, keep it fresh and chip free. If not make sure they are trimmed or filed and clean.
-    Have fun, experiment with styles to find what suits you. You can express your personality and beliefs through your clothes.
-    Wear the right size. Your clothes need to fit properly. If you wear clothes that are too big, you make look sloppy and too tight looks trashy. This does not mean your mini skirt can’t hug your curves and show off your long legs, it will in the right size. You can look good and be comfortable too. You may be proud of your new cleavage, but leave a little to the imagination and don’t show it all.
-    Jewelry can dress up or down your outfit, but make sure you stay with the same type, don’t wear a gold necklace and plastic bracelets. Though, if you are looking to create a new trend, you might try it.
-    Don’t be afraid to try new things. Being a teen is a time to explore your sense of style and fashion. You can wear all black one week, and then wear bright colors and patterns the next. You are too you to get stuck in a fashion rut. Once you find the style that works for you, experience within that style with color, patterns, and accessories.

Picking the Right Dress for Your Wedding

The pictures are going to be around forever so you want to make sure that you absolutely get it right. Picking the right wedding dress is one of the biggest challenges that any bride faces and she wants to make sure that the dresses for her bridesmaids are timeless as well. You don’t want to look back in ten years and wonder what you were thinking.

The number one rule for dress shopping for a wedding is to establish a budget before you ever step into any bridal shop. If you set a limit, you will not be caught in the position of falling in love with a dress that is out of your price range or beyond the reach of the members of your bridal party. If you establish the budget up front, sales agents should not even bring out anything to show you that is more than you are willing to spend.

After shopping for diamond engagement rings, finding the dress should be your number one priority. Settle on a bridal gown before you start shopping for the bridesmaid dresses because this is your day and how you look is more important than the members of the bridal party. Find a design that is flattering to your figure and a dress that you can move around in if you are planning on dancing at your reception.

When it comes time to select bridesmaid dresses, try and settle on a style that will look good on all of the girls in the wedding party. Do you want a knee-length dress or one that goes to the floor? You also should have a good idea of the color scheme for the wedding before shopping for gowns for the wedding party. A rainbow of color surrounding the bride makes for a very stunning effect in photos, or you can choose a more traditional approach and go with gowns of the same color.
